GIGABIT ETHERNET
How Fast is FAST?
The Gigabit Ethernet service allows a AmericasGate Internet business customer to transmit the entire contents of the Oxford English Dictionary in 4 seconds.
To download a DVD movie- standard modem 18 hours, an ISDN line 8 hours, DSL 27 minutes, standard Ethernet connection 6 mins & a GigE connection 3.5 seconds.
Gigabit Ethernet service allows a AmericasGate Internet business customer to connect and transmit data at a rate 34,722 times faster than a standard 28.8Kbps dial up modem connection, or 651 times faster than a 1.536Mbps frame.
Metro Ethernet is available now in many metropolitan areas.
Metro Ethernet (ME):
Metro Ethernet (ME) represents AmericasGate Internet's next evolution of the Native Mode LAN Interconnection/Gigabit Ethernet (NMLI/Gig-E) service. It combines existing NMLI with next-generation features, notably committed bandwidth at tariffed speeds, the ability to burst, support for delay-sensitive traffic, Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) stacking with port aggregation, Customer Network Management (CNM), and Service Level Assurances (SLA) to support Quality of Service (QoS). AmericasGate Internet® Metro Ethernet is a high-speed packet transport that is based on Ethernet transmission parameters. Metro Ethernet Service provides various transport capabilities that range from 2Megabits Per Second (Mbps) through 1 Gigabits Per Second (Gbps) with capabilities for Basic, Premium, and Dedicated Arrangements that may be used to meet individual customer needs. Metro Ethernet is a service where Local Area Networks (LANs) send bi-directional Ethernet traffic to other LANs on an Ethernet Wide Area Network (WAN). Ethernet is one of the most widely deployed LAN/WAN standards. A Metro Ethernet Customer Network is defined as the set of interconnected Metro Ethernet connections assigned to the same VLAN within the core Network.
